Karnataka Minister Praises Islam, Calls It ‘Superior’ | BJP Demands Apology, Resignation

Описание: A political controversy has erupted in Karnataka after Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy praised Islam during a mass marriage event in Koppal.

Rayareddy described Islam as a “great religion” and said it was “superior to all other religions.” He also said Islam promotes humanity, has a scientific outlook and discourages religious fanaticism and casteism.

The minister said he was willing to study the Quran and argued that its teachings were intended for all of humanity. He also spoke about his desire to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage, while saying he does not frequently visit temples or mutts.

His remarks have triggered a sharp political backlash from the BJP. Karnataka BJP chief R Ashoka accused Rayareddy of demeaning Hinduism and Sanatan Dharma and demanded that Chief Minister D K Shivakumar ask the minister to apologise to the Hindu community or resign from the Cabinet.

The BJP has also questioned the Congress government's stance, alleging that it has remained silent over what the party describes as derogatory remarks about Hindu faith and religious institutions.

The controversy has intensified political pressure on the Karnataka government, with the BJP demanding action against the Congress minister.
