Описание: Antonio Gil-Nagel, MD, PhD, Hospital Ruber Internacional, Madrid, Spain, discusses the reduced healthcare of young adults with epilepsy. Dr Gil-Nagel highlights the study evaluating the access to advanced diagnostic tests in patients with epilepsy and intellectual disability carried out at the Epilepsy Unit of two hospitals in Madrid, Spain. There is a large proportion of patients with epilepsy and intellectual disability who do not have access to modern diagnostic techniques, especially genetic testing, during the development of the disease. Additionally, there has shown to be a gap in up to date medical testing available to these patients, such as genetic testing and MRI. This group of patients needs to be studied properly, in order to treat and educate children who are currently developing epilepsy. This interview took place during the Virtual World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) 2020.
