Tropical Botanist Dr Peter Wilkie from #TeamRBGE talks us through the final stage of the collection. Plant material collected is specifically prepared to enhance DNA extraction.
The material is ripped up into small pieces and dried in silica gel, which helps stop the DNA from degrading. In our research laboratories, the DNA can be extracted and analysed to help us understand how different species are genetically related to each other.
