How to season a raw steel offset smoker:
✅ Remove any rust with scotch-brite, a wire brush, and/or a grinder.
✅ Apply a very thin coating of linseed oil (or any low heat oil) on the cook chamber and avocado oil (or any high heat oil) on the firebox.
✅ Heat the smoker to a temperature above the oil’s smoke point. I usually season the firebox as it starts to cool down.
✅ Use a weed gun or high heat torch to polymerize the oil on the legs and any other areas that won’t get hot.
✅ Step back and admire your beautiful like new smoker.
