Dr Mubarak Ali says that church had an iron grip over European society in the medieval times so the main focus of renaissance movement was to secularise the education system. "Europe revolted against the church and re-established its cultural connection with the Roman and Greek civilisations because they were secular cultures", he says.
The second major change came through the reformation movement of Martin Luther. "Massive progress was made in the countries that adopted Protestantism", Dr Mubarak Ali adds.
