Delhi: While speaking to PTI regarding Diabetes Awareness Month, Prof. Monika Arora, Vice-President, Research and Health Promotion at the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) says, “We are seeing a rapid increase in diabetes, not only Type 2 diabetes, but also due to the rise in obesity in the country. With this growing trend of overweight, obesity, and diabetes, it becomes very important that, from a public health perspective, we start including communities in these discussions”.
She added that the system is failing when patients do not know their medication, skip checkups, and replace treatment with home remedies.
To address this, HRIDAY, in collaboration with Beyond Type 1, has launched the #SeeTheSigns campaign, which aims to improve early diagnosis, bust myths around insulin and medication, and empower people to manage this chronic condition with regular checkups, lifestyle changes, treatment adherence, and ease the growing burden on India’s public health system.
