On the Internet I’ve noticed that a charity organization in Scotland that with the help of volunteers takes care of the Highland National Park, is selling souvenir plots of land the size from one sqft to one 1000 sqft. They do this in order to collect funds for maintaining the park.
By purchasing the land you actually become the owner of the plot and you get the purchase agreement. Since this is a souvenir plot, you leave it to the management of the park. The plot can be visited by coordinates provided by the administration, or if you visit the park the free transportation to the plot is available.
You also get a certificate that confirms that you are given an honorary - not a noble - title Lord or Lady. All plots come with a unique gift pack and the right to style yourself as Lord or Lady of Glencoe. You obtain personal right to that souvenir plot and the permission to use their registered trademarks Lord or Lady of Glencoe. How is this possible?
According to the Scottish law and tradition, every landowner in Scotland has the right to call himself lord or lady for a woman. The word lord simply means "landowner" (landlord). Who gives you the certificate that you have the right to this honorary title?
In many countries certain institutions are registered that can issue honorary titles for achievements, such as the Honorary Doctor of Science, the Honorary Citizen of Boston, etc. In Scotland, park management is registered for that.
That is why they give the honorable title to anyone who buys even the smallest plot. I have to emphasize once again - this is not the same as the noble title Lord awarded by the British Queen, just as the title of the Honorary Citizen of Boston does not mean that this person actually lives in Boston.
