This video documents a rainy road trip from the NY/NJ border to Boothbay, Maine, ending with an unforgettable stay at Shore Hills Campground and a visit to Boothbay Harbor on the final days of the season.

After hours of driving through New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire in heavy rain and traffic, we arrived late at Shore Hills Campground and immediately understood why it’s such a highly regarded destination. Despite it being closing weekend, the campground staff went above and beyond, providing a smooth check in, clear directions and a welcoming experience.

The next morning revealed something special: we were the last campers in the entire campground, with a peaceful site overlooking the surrounding scenery. From clean bathrooms and hot showers to WiFi, electric hookups, and quiet coastal views, Shore Hills offers everything needed for a comfortable Maine camping experience.

We then headed into Boothbay Harbor, a dog-friendly coastal town known for its charm, food and waterfront views. Although weather canceled our whale watching trip, we enjoyed brunch at Red Cup Coffee House, explored local shops, walked the footbridge and finished the day with fresh seafood at Boothbay Lobster Wharf.

This trip captures the beauty of coastal Maine in the off-season and shows why Boothbay Harbor and Shore Hills Campground are worth visiting — rain or shine.
