There are a few plants that supplement their inorganic diet
with organic compounds. These organic compounds are obtained by trapping and digesting insects
and small animals. All of the insectivorous plants are true autotrophs, but when they capture prey, to these plants. In some plants, the trapped insects are decomposed by bacteria. In others the their growth becomes rapid. Apparently, nitrogenous compounds of animal body are of benefit trapped insects are digested by enzymes secreted by the leaves. The plants absorb the nitrogenous
compounds thus formed.
