A rare sparkle and vigour marked Pt. Sanjoy Bandypadhyay’s exposition of Sahana Kanada on the Sitar, at the Bengal Classical Music Festival of 2016. A disciple of Sarod maestro Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra (1917-1981) of the Senia-Shahjahanpur gharana, Pt. Sanjoy Bandyopadhyaya delighted audiences with his unhurried elucidation and careful crafting of phrases that showed off the majestic raga to perfection. Pt. Parimal Chakrabarty’s accompaniment in the Tabla suitably sustained the intricate tonal beauty of the composition. Pt. Sanjoy Bandypadhyay rounded off the longer raga exposition with a short piece in Raga Pilu Jangla.
