As part of the KNMA X ART MUMBAI Speaker Series, the Tyeb Mehta Foundation took part in a panel discussion on 13th of November 2025. The panel aimed to explore Tyeb Mehta’s artistic legacy and global impact and was held in conjunction with his retrospective exhibition at ART MUMBAI presented by the Saffronart Foundation, Tyeb Mehta Foundation, and the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art.
The panel brought together Roobina Karode, Chief Curator, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art; Himani Mehta Dehlvi and Yusuf Mehta, Trustees of the Tyeb Mehta Foundation, to reflect on Tyeb Mehta’s artistic legacy and global impact. The discussion addressed the evolution of modern Indian art and the continued relevance of Mehta’s ideas, with particular focus on his engagement with themes of violence, mythology, and the human condition, as well as the development of his distinct visual language shaped by experiences of Partition and influences such as Francis Bacon and American minimalism.
Positioned within the larger framework of the retrospective, the session contributed to ongoing critical engagement with Mehta’s work and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to fostering dialogue around his enduring relevance within modern and contemporary art discourse.
