A State of Emergency has been declared for the Ōtorohanga District after widespread flooding, heavy rain, slips and inundation.
Heavy downpours have hammered parts of the North Island on Friday with more rain forecast for Saturday.
A deep low is expected to form over the northeast of the North Island on Saturday, bringing a more sustained period of heavy rain, according to MetService.
Orange heavy rain warnings cover Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty from Opotiki westwards - including Rotorua, Bay of Plenty east of Opotiki, Gisborne and Tairāwhiti.
Road closures are in place across parts of Waikato, with State Highways 31 and 39 shut between Ōtorohanga and Pirongia.
