As we curated the Investor Summit our intention was to discuss the most important investing issues of the day. Which is why Sam Bell, the Summit Co-founder, pushed hard for a panel discussion covering what we called ‘The Rise of Retail’: the persistent lack of retail investor participation in the UK’s investment landscape.
Compared to markets like the US and the Nordics, the UK is decades behind in building a true culture of personal investing. As Moderator Maike Currie says, “We’ve wrapped the individual investor in cotton wool, driven by well-intended but ultimately limiting regulation post the 2008 Financial Crisis.”
Maike was joined on her panel discussion by:

James Deal from RetailBook, a platform building new models to open up IPOs and placings to individual investors
