“Tejer Juntas” Workshop, a co-creation project with women weavers in Santiago Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. The workshop took place in November of 2023, at the Women’s House of @mujeresafedes , an organization dedicated to women’s rights and the creation of a « new economy » by addressing the structural nature of inequalities linked to patriarchy, capitalism and colonialism. Through the support of the organization, women from various villages gather in this space to connect, reflect, and take collective action. Together, they reclaim their identity and rewrite their history as Maya women.
Itinérance Méditerranée is deeply involved in promoting Mediterranean textile heritage. Our initiative is also open to collaborations beyond this region, connecting women and their craftsmanship across the world. We were thrilled to work on this project with the French Embassy in Guatemala and we’re excited by the prospect of future collaborations of this kind!
