Area under curve (AUC) is an indicator of the total amount of the drug absorbed into the systemic circulation and it is directly proportional to the dose administered in case of linear kinetics. AUC achieved for a drug can be calculated by using dose of the drug and its clearance. Sometimes we can also calculate AUC by using elimination rate constant and volume of distribution as the last two when multiplied can give the clearance value of the drug.
