Hi everyone, this video will be a review of cistern fittings that is supplied from Screwfix, which therefore supplies a good bit of kit regardless of what is required, so therefore I am reviewing a toilet cistern overflow stand pipe and a toilet cistern blanking cap which is sold by their "Flomasta" brand.
These are great quality products which do the job as needed, at an affordable price and therefore does exactly what it says on the packaging.
These fittings can be used to replace like for like or just give a cistern a refurbishment with new fittings, can be used for bottom entry toilet cisterns as shown but the blanking cap can be used for side entry toilet cisterns.
The overflow stand pipe and blanking plug is 21.5mm and will fit an inlet hole that is 22mm, so ideal for a replacement.
The toilets I have in my videos were bought without fittings and therefore added my own fittings, with both configurations used for this video, internal overflow with the blanking cap and external overflow with a stand pipe.
The installation of these products is not shown in this video and this video is just a basic big standard review of the both products that is available as of today.
Toilet cisterns prior to 2001 in the UK, always had a secondary inlet hole for an overflow stand pipe as toilet syphon flush valves were to tall to be external overflow, so replacement overflow stand pipes are still available if you are replacing like for like.
Majority of toilet cisterns made from 2001, especially by "Ideal Standard" often excluded a secondary hole, so those cisterns had to include an internal overflow syphon flush valve or a drop valve, but many manufacturers still often included the secondary inlet hole but was often blanked off with a blanking plug as shown in the video.
Regardless of what your requirement is with your cistern, these products will do the job at a great price with no messing about, however if you are installing a blanking plug, makesure you measure your existing toilet syphon flush valve if installing in a lever flush cistern, as these are to be used for an internal overflow configuration.
If your syphon measures over 9 inches in height, you will not have an internal overflow syphon, therefore you will need to replace this before a blanking plug is installed, otherwise you will not have an overflow safety feature with your cistern and therefore can result in a flood, so definitely measure the existing syphon in your cistern before buying.
This is done by measuring from the bottom of the syphon flush valve already inside your cistern to the top of the syphon, however if your syphon is already internal overflow, or if you have a cable flush valve, then you will be good to go.
The overflow stand pipe should only be used to replace existing stand pipes that are already inside an older cistern or to refurbish an older cistern made prior to 2001 as this goes against water regs in the UK.
Always seek professional advice before commencing any work and if in doubt, hire a qualified plumber.
Whilst this may not be the best of explanations, you may be able to understand with some previous plumbing knowledge how these can be fitted.
