As far as I understand, the educational underwater trail in Verige Bay (podvodna poučna staza u uvali Verige) was first introduced this year at Brijuni Nacionalni Park, and is a summer season activity. The price includes snorkeling gear (mask specially fitted with audio which is available in three major languages, mouthpiece, fins, and a neoprene suit if desired) and the boat transfers; you also have the opportunity to rent an underwater camera, with photo and HD video options, for which you'll receive a free DVD to take home with you).
However, the water in Verige Bay was muggier than I anticipated. This led to lesser quality images and decreased visibility. I also had a problem with the mask, as I kept getting water in my nose. This was especially challenging as I started back toward the rocky beach; I also felt pressure on my forehead, with the mask seeming tighter.
With regard to the audio, I'm not sure how much of the info. stuck. I do remember something about umbrella-shaped algae and cucumber fish. There was also some mention of the Romans, and the importance of the sea with regard to oxygen. However, I was disoriented under the water and still new to snorkeling, so I was easily distracted by the fish and with trying to figure out where I was going.
But I think the educational water trail in Verige Bay (podvodna poučna staza u uvali Verige) offers you an opportunity to learn something while doing something active. At the same time, the audio makes repeated mentions to being in a group, though I was out there by myself - the first time I was alone snorkeling which was a little intimidating; so I think having a guide is better, but I don't know how you'd find one.
It can also be a bit confusing to find the kiosk. So here's your clue: If you reach the Roman grounds in Verige Bay (you'll see a sign for this on the right), you need to head back and look to your left. The kiosk will be before the split in the road (if you're like me, you will not see the split when you're walking toward the bay; from this direction, the kiosk is on your right after the split in the road).
Anyway, my video gives you a hint of what you can find in Verige Bay. The shiny moving things are schools of fish (not to be confused with the sunlight which reaches to the floor) and, yes, they move fast! The most exciting part of snorkeling for me is seeing different kinds of fish in the same spaces, as well as the numbers of schools. However, I didn't observe as much variety in Verige Bay as I have in other places, but this may have to do with the time of day, season, etc.
:)
