According to Wikipedia, the town of Wächtersbach embarrassed itself when it created a coat of arms that got the etymology of the name all wrong. To make matters worse, one former mayor's lasting legacy will forever be a statue that perpetuates this terrible mistake.
But as I researched this one, I quickly discovered evidence to show that Wikipedia -- gasp! -- got it wrong. Here's the story of Wächtersbach's coat of arms, and what in heraldry a "cant" is.
