On a fine day in Nandi, Kenya I come across a 640 vintage Tractor powering up a Sawmill and some dedicated lumberjacks As an mechanical engineer, I am intrigued by its operation and asked to film the whole of it and this video is a testament to that.
Watch how the lumberjacks use axes in conjunction with the saw to lumber eucalyptus logs.
I also explore the torque transmission system of the tractor powered Sawmill. In this video you will see how a propeller shaft is coupled to a splined rotating output shaft of the tractor.
You will also notice the couple mechanism on the shaft. On it you shall see the universal joint and how the propeller shaft is coupled with the sawmill.
On the sawmill assembly, you will find a double V belt pulley system used to rotate the sawing blade.
Further, you'll see how rollers are placed at the edges of the mill to aid movement of the logs.
