Firstly I'd like to end a nasty streak of over 3 years with no uploads. Now that's gone.

Secondly, with this video, I'd like to test the waters with some new technologies I've been tinkering with, some for a long time. You may immediately notice a bit of a jump in quality compared to the usual Seattle 1977 content. Dare I say, it's actually listenable here.

This video features the return of my tried-and-true method of creating a soundboard-audience matrix, but with an added wrinkle. For the first time, I've employed AI software which is able to separate each individual instrument, so I can fine-tune the mix like never before. In particular, this software is very good at bolstering the drums, but I've also treated the vocals and guitar solo a bit as well. This kind of technology has been hit-or-miss for years now, but I've finally gotten it to a point where I think I can have confidence in it.

Seattle 1977's video tape also presents the opportunity to dabble in some AI video restoration, which I tried to tastefully do. The video has been de-interlaced, the resolution has been upscaled from 480i to 720p, and the frame rate has been increased from 30 to 60. In layman's terms, it's 50% bigger, 100% smoother, and sharper to the eye.

All in all, I think this video serves as a demonstration for the potential of applying AI to preserve the legacy of Zep. I have a couple small projects that have been sitting in a proverbial closet somewhere for god knows how long. I'd like to finally ship them out for you to listen to at some point very soon.
