9. MUNNAI PAZHAM PORUTKKUM....

The girls who are in the process of carrying out their 'Paavai Nonbu', address Siva as the Primordial Being who is also the Neoteric, profess their expectations that they have of their future husbands. They individually avow, "As I have you as my Lord, I shall bow to your devotee, be his companion and carry out all his commandments." Finally they conclude by saying that they will be copiously blessed if the Lord grants their wishes.

பின்னைப் புதுமைக்கும் பேர்த்துமப் பெற்றியனே
உன்னைப் பிரானாகப் பெற்ற உன் சீரடியோம்
உன்னடியார் தாள்பணிவோம் ஆங்கவர்க்கே பாங்காவோம்
அன்னவரே எங்கணவ ராவார் அவர் உகந்து
சொன்ன பரிசே தொழும்பாய்ப் பணிசெய்வோம்

9. Thoomani

Summary:

After having woken up some of their friends, the maidens proceed to awaken a kin( uncle's daughter) now. Taking advantage of the fact that she is their relative, they seem to be using harsh words to wake her up. However, this they do, not in the intention of hurting her, but in a sense of urge to awaken her and make her relish the joy of chanting His numerous names.

Translation:
The gem- studded hall is brightly decorated with lamps all over. Amidst the intoxicating incense of camphor, there you lay asleep, Oh my uncle's daughter! Open your gem- studded door!* Oh aunt, Will you not wake up your daughter? Is she dumb or deaf or may be too lazy? Was she driven into such deep sleep through sorcery? Chant all the names of the Lord and wake her up.

The gem - studded door could also refer to her beautiful eyes, asking her to open her bright eyes and awaken from sleep.

தூமணி மாடத்துச் சுற்றும் விளக்கெரிய,
தூபங் கமழத் துயிலணைமேல் கண்வளரும்
மாமான் மகளே! மணிக்கதவம் தாழ்திறவாய்;
மாமீர்! அவளை எழுப்பீரோ? உம்மகள்தான்
ஊமையோ? அன்றிச் செவிடோ அனந்தலோ?
ஏமப் பெருந்துயில் மந்திரப் பட்டாளோ?
மாமாயன், மாதவன், வைகுந்தன் என்றென்று
