CASE BACKGROUND: Sex Crimes Charges: In addition to the murder charge, Sterns faces 60 charges related to sex crimes against Madeline. These charges range from possession of child sex abuse material to sexual battery of a child under 12. Madeline Soto vanished on February 26, 2024. Surveillance footage captured Sterns disposing of items in a dumpster near their apartment complex. Among the discarded belongings were Madeline’s backpack and school laptop. Authorities believe Madeline was already deceased at that time. Her lifeless body was later discovered in the woods off Old Hickory Tree Road in Osceola County. Sterns now faces that include sexual battery of a child, lewd and lascivious molestation, and possession of child sexual abuse material. The severity of these charges could lead to life imprisonment or even the death penalty. Pre-trial will be on July 10th, 2024, with a trial date scheduled for August 19th. 2024
