POPE PAUL'S HISTORIC HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE The 66-year-old Pontiff journeys from the Vatican for three crowded days of pilgrimage during which he visits Christendom's holiest shrines in Jordan and Israel. He is welcomed on his arrival in Amman by King Hussein. In Jerusalem, throngs engulf the Pope as he walks to his devotions at the Stations of the Cross, Calvary and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. In the Israeli sector, the Pontiff is welcomed by President Shazar. The Pope is in Israel about 12 hours, and visits the sites of Jesus' youth and young manhood.
