June 12, 1993 is remembered as one of the most important and controversial days in Nigerian history.
Millions of Nigerians voted in what was widely believed to be one of the freest elections in the country’s history. The leading candidate was Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.
But before the final results were officially confirmed, the military government led by Ibrahim Babangida annulled the election.
The decision sparked nationwide protests, political unrest, and a long struggle for democracy in Nigeria.
Many Nigerians still see June 12 as the day hope for change was taken away.
Do you think Nigeria would be different today if the June 12 election had not been cancelled?
