Directed by Richard Lester, this American / British action-drama film features an impressive cast that includes Anthony Hopkins, British actor and director David Hemmings (1941-2003), Freddie Jones (1927-2019), who had an extensive career in film, television, and theatre productions for almost sixty years, Ian Holm (1931-2020), Irish actor and singer Richard Harris (1930-2002), the great Omar Sharif (1932-2015), English character actor and comedian Roy Kinnear (1934-1988), and American actress Shirley Knight (1936-2020). The script, written by Richard Alan Simmons (1924-2004), was inspired by a bomb threat against the QE2 in 1972, which resulted in Special forces being parachuted into the Atlantic to board and search the liner, as dramatized in the film. The film was largely shot on location aboard the TS Hamburg in the North Sea whilst location shooting was done in and around London. Also known as 'Terror on the Britannic, this fictional account of a real-life event (that actually turned out to be a hoax) is highly recommended.

The short but brilliantly effective score was written by Lester's frequent musical collaborator, Ken Thorne, whose sparse yet effective music is filled with tension and suspense, and also includes a lovely romantic theme to accompany the scenes with Shirley Knight and Omar Sharif. Thorne began his musical career as a pianist with the big bands of England during the 1940's, playing at night clubs and dance halls before he began composing scores for films, which started in 1948. From the 1980's onward, he turned his attention toward television, working predominantly with director Kevin Connor. Some of his more notable film scores include 'Dead Man's Evidence (1962), 'Master Spy (1963), 'Inspector Clouseau (1968), 'The Bed-Sitting Room (1969), 'Power Play (1978), 'Wolf Lake (1980), and 'The House Where Evil Dwells (1982). As a conductor, orchestral arranger and music coordinator, Thorne also achieved notoriety for his contributions to the English version of Franco Zeffirelli's film 'Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1973).
