Released in 1986, Seventh Star is one of the most controversial albums in the Black Sabbath catalog. Originally intended as Tony Iommi’s first solo album, it was released under the name Black Sabbath featuring Tony Iommi due to label pressure. The result is a polished 80s hard rock album that sounds closer to Rainbow or Deep Purple than classic Sabbath.

In this video, I break down the history behind Seventh Star, talk about why it sounds so different, and go track by track through the entire album. I also share my personal connection to this era of Black Sabbath and explain why this album works better when you stop expecting traditional doom metal.
