The next Landy to achieve collector status is the Classic Range Rover with
prices for good ones in the mid-$30k range.
This particular vehicle is the last year of the Range Rover Classics and is a one-
year-only model featuring an extended wheelbase for considerably more rear
seat space, the largest engine available in the Classic range (4.2 liter fuel-
injected V8) and a redesigned instrument panel later used in the next generation
model. This “one-off” status makes it likely to be the most desirable year to own
from both specification and collectability standpoints.
This Range Rover is original to factory specs, finished in Beluga Black, with mag
wheels, Saddle Leather Interior With Burl Walnut wood trim surrounds. It is fully
“loaded” with dual range automatic transmission, power windows, sunroof,
premium Harmon-Kardon sound system, etc.
It has just received a professional, high quality 4-coat paint job ($8000) in the
original factory color over a corrosion-free and accident-free body (CarFax
available). It was painted due to crazing of the original clear-coat. It has new
premium tires all-around, new brakes, rotors and calipers. Importantly, the
troublesome air suspension has been professionally replaced with a conventional
shock/spring conversion and rides and drives like new. ($3000 job)
The Range Rover Classic was the first ever luxury sport utility and retained its
body style and basic design for 25 years, from 1970 to 1995. A model of this car
appears in the permanent design collection of the Louvre Museum in Paris,
France. No wonder this model is achieving classic status.
