Just before Inside Out 2 released, Pixar director Pete Docter said they were going to get away from telling personal stories to focus on sequels, spin offs and movies with a wide appeal. This can be concerning because they've already more or less run some of their other franchises into the ground and that's not what we as fans want to see from the company. However, Inside Out 2 ended up being a huge hit for Pixar and imo one that in many ways proves Docter wrong as it was based on the director's experiences with his daughter. Can Pixar retain their magic and keep this momentum going, or will they over rely on nostalgia bait and lose control of their momentum. After all, Lightyear was a spin off and that didn't work out for them.
