The fines started small.
“Property neglect.”
“Unoccupied structure.”

I own a mountain cabin — off-grid, seasonal, intentionally quiet. I don’t live there year-round. I never claimed I would.
But according to the HOA president, absence meant abandonment. And abandonment, apparently, meant penalties.

The driveway had tire tracks.

He was living there.

The same man fining me for abandonment had quietly moved in under the excuse of “monitoring conditions.”
When confronted, his confidence cracked fast. Especially when I mentioned documentation, occupancy laws, and misuse of authority.
The fines disappeared.
So did his access.
