The television adaptation of Ikoku Nikki begins airing on January 4, 2026 across TOKYO MX, ABC TV, BS Asahi, and AT-X, with the fastest unlimited streaming available on Prime Video. Additional platforms will follow.
The series is based on Tomoko Yamashita’s acclaimed manga and is directed by Miyuki Oshiro, with series composition and scripts by Kohei Kiyasu and character designs by Kenji Hayama. Animation is produced by Shuka. The opening theme is performed by TOMOO, and the ending theme is by Bialystocks.
The story follows novelist Makio Koda, who reluctantly takes in her 15-year-old niece Asako after a sudden family tragedy. Makio, reserved and uncomfortable with others, and Asako, who struggles with loneliness after losing her parents, begin an uncertain shared life together. Their contrasting personalities gradually shape a fragile, awkward, yet heartfelt bond as they navigate grief, identity, and the search for connection.
Ikoku Nikki offers a gentle, introspective drama about two people learning to coexist and rediscover themselves through an unexpected living arrangement.
