Syracuse University’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) is a nationally accredited campus law enforcement agency with a mission to serve and protect the campus community through a unique partnership with the Syracuse Police Department (SPD). Not only does DPS have a community policing presence on the main campus community but also in the surrounding off campus neighorhoods. Over the past 10 years, “Orange Watch”, “The University Area Crime Control Team” and the “Neighborhood Patrol Program” have been implemented. These programs have helped reduce crime in near campus neighbohoods by about 33% and have been successful thanks to partnership and collaboration with the SPD.
