The Silent 'K' Rule!
When the letters 'K' and 'N' start a word, the 'K' is always silent. You only pronounce the 'N' sound!
Let's look at the most common examples:
1. knife /naɪf/ (sounds like "nife")
"Pass me the sharp knife, please."
2. know /nəʊ/ (sounds like "no")
"I know how to solve this problem."
3. knowledge /ˈnɒl.ɪdʒ/ (sounds like "nol-ij")
"She has excellent knowledge of history."
4. knee /niː/ (sounds like "nee")
"The football player injured his knee."
5. knock /nɒk/ (sounds like "nok")
"Always knock before entering a room."
6. knit /nɪt/ (sounds like "nit")
"My grandmother taught me how to knit."
Try saying these words aloud, focusing on starting with the clean /n/ sound!
