Lost In The Yukon - The Trip That Changed Everything

Описание: In the summer of 2024 my wife Ashley and I, along with our 7 year old Heeler (Betty-Lou) and 13 year old Newfoundland dog (Hugo) would embark on an incredible canoe trip in one of our favourite places on earth... The Yukons’ "Big Salmon River".

This trip was full of incredible wildlife, fishing, camping, fast moving water, and just unbelievable scenery at every turn. It's heaven on earth!

This canoe trip was one that we did not expect to be able to do. Our aging dog was getting to the point where he was having difficulty moving around freely and needed more help as the days went on. At the beginning of the summer we seriously wondered if he would be able to come on any canoe trips with us at all. But as the season began, he seemed to actually be improving! One trip after another we started to see some improvement in his mobility and he seemed happier.

As it turned out, by the end of the summer Hugo seemed well enough to tackle this river with us and we could not be happier to have these memories with him. However, a few months after finishing this trip we lost Hugo of old age. He just couldn't do it anymore and we had to make the tough decision to let him go.

It's been incredibly tough on both Ashley and I dealing with his loss. I didn’t realize how much it would affect us. Editing these videos with footage of Hugo nearing the end of his life has been both healing and heartbreaking at the same time - as I'm sure so many of you with dogs could understand. We are so very lucky to have made this final trip as a family down the Big Salmon River in the beautiful Yukon, and I sincerely couldn't ask for a better place to say goodbye to our old boy.
