In an exclusive interview with Works and Highways Secretary Mr. David Wereh, we unveil a remarkable transformation in Papua New Guinea's infrastructure landscape. Secretary Wereh reveals that the once arduous journey between Mt Hagen and Lae, which used to take a grueling 12 hours, has now been reduced to a mere six hours.
This dramatic reduction in travel time is a tangible testament to the resounding success of the 'Connect PNG' programme spearheaded by the Marape Government. Not content with the status quo, the Marape Government has injected additional funding, supplementing the existing support from the Asian Development Bank. These funds are being channeled into crucial repairs for the challenging sections of the Highlands Highway, specifically Kassam Pass, Daulo Pass in Eastern Highlands, and Chimbu.
Moreover, substantial resources have been allocated to address and refurbish all bridges along the stretch from Kagamuga in Western Highlands to Nadzab in Morobe. As a result, we are on the brink of achieving a transformative milestone – the completion of Kassam Pass, Daulo Pass, and Chimbu. Once these projects are finalised, an astonishing 70 percent of the Highlands Highway's longstanding issues will have been successfully resolved.
Join us in this exclusive interview with Secretary Wereh as he delves deeper into the monumental progress and future prospects of these infrastructure endeavors. Witness firsthand how these remarkable developments are set to shape the future of Papua New Guinea's connectivity and economic growth. Don't miss out on this exciting insight into the journey of progress and transformation. Subscribe now for more exclusive updates on this incredible transformation!
