Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the traditional lace products made by women self-help groups in Narsapur, West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, during the 129th episode of Man Ki Baat. Highlighting women’s role in economic progress, he noted how the centuries-old Narsapur lace craft has retained its unique identity while gaining nationwide recognition. The Prime Minister underlined the collaborative efforts of the Andhra Pradesh government and NABARD in training artisans, introducing new designs, and connecting them to wider markets. With the prestigious GI tag, Narsapur lace now supports nearly one lakh women across 250 villages, producing over 500 products and ensuring sustainable livelihoods while preserving India’s rich artisanal heritage.
