The Senate passed the funding deal I described in last night’s abbreviated FactsHQ newsletter. That deal includes fully funding 5 of the 6 appropriations bills through the rest of the fiscal year. The last bill for the Department of Homeland Security was changed to just a short term Continuing Resolution that will only keep DHS open for 2 weeks. This CR does not include any reforms to ICE. Now Democrats and Republicans will have two weeks to come up with a deal to fully fund DHS for the fiscal year and make serious policy changes to ICE.
But, tonight’s action in the Senate is NOT stopping a partial government shutdown from starting at 12:01 a.m. est Saturday morning. This video explains what we know about that and what the plan is to get the government functioning again.
