Today's road trip takes us along the A589 from M6 Junction 34 to Heysham in Lancashire.
The road begins at the Lune Valley Interchange - a relatively new junction design with the Lune West Bridge and the Bay Gateway (A683), all built in the last ten years. The eastern side of the rather old fashioned interchange remains, with grassy broken up remains on the western side of the M6.
The A589 descends into Lancaster, passing under the Lancaster Canal and threading along the River Lune before reaching a one-way system and passing over the Greyhound Bridge, which carries westbound traffic. The Skerton Bridge carries eastbound traffic. We continue under Carlisle railway bridge, and pass through Scale Hall and past the College as we contend with the junction with the dual carriageway Bay Gateway. After this, we make towards the coast via Great Wood, and arrive at Marine Road on the eastern side of Morecambe. The A589 then becomes the seafront through Morecambe and recedes inland into Heysham, where it terminates at the A683 near Heysham Port.
