🔥 ABOUT THIS WORKOUT
Early extension is one of the most common faults in the golf swing and one of the most misunderstood. While it often shows up as the hips moving closer to the ball through impact, the root cause is rarely the swing itself. In most cases, early extension is driven by physical limitations and muscular imbalances that prevent the body from maintaining posture and space during rotation.
In this session, we break down early extension from a golf fitness perspective. We look closely at hamstring length and function, as restricted or poorly functioning hamstrings limit hip hinge control and make it difficult to stay in posture as speed increases. When the hamstrings cannot lengthen or load correctly, the body looks for stability elsewhere, often forcing the hips forward as a compensation.
We also address muscular imbalances between the posterior chain and the anterior chain, including glutes, core, hip flexors, and spinal stabilisers. When certain muscles dominate while others underperform, the body loses the ability to rotate efficiently around a stable axis, leading to early extension under pressure.
Alongside the mobility and strength work, we introduce golf specific movement patterns that retrain how the body loads, rotates, and maintains space through the swing. These drills help you feel proper hip depth, pelvic control, and sequencing so your body can support the positions your coach is asking for.
