From a geological perspective, the mainland and the central and eastern groups of the Azorean archipelago are part of the Eurasian tectonic plate. The westernmost islands of the Azores, Flores, and Corvo, are part of the North American tectonic plate, which also includes Greenland and part of Iceland. Therefore, thanks to these islands, Portugal is also considered part of North America.
