“Super Position” by David Graeber explores the role of state power and its origins in the context of superhero comic book characters. He argues that superheroes are reactionary characters that ultimately reinforce the idea that power is not held by the people.
A few corrections. The first is that Superman is from Kansas, not Iowa. Come on David. Two, no sentence in the film was changed to use the word occupy, in fact, when Bane takes over the PA system at the football stadium, he says “take control of” twice.
There are 3 versions of the text. The shortest form is the article titled Super Position in The New Inquiry. There is a slightly longer version available in pdf form on dedicto. The longest version of the text is found in the last chapter of his book “The Utopia of Rules'' which I was able to use thanks to my brother lending me his copy.
