In this video you will see my first time fishing at Collins Lake as I head out to test the trout bite just a couple days after a rumored Thursday stocking. I’ve never fished this lake before, so this trip is all about experimenting, learning the layout, and figuring out what works when the bite is slow.

I set up on the right side of the dam, away from most of the pressure on the left side, and start off with multiple rods using PowerBait while also keeping a jig rod ready. Early on, the action is very slow with no bites, so I begin making adjustments — recasting farther out, paying attention to where fish might be holding, and changing my leader length to about 2.5–3 feet to see if that triggers a bite.

After staying patient and sticking it out, one of the rods finally bends and I land the first trout of the morning, a solid fish around 2+ pounds. You’ll see the bite happen in real time and get a close look at the setup that made it happen. As the day goes on, I manage to pick up another trout despite the tough conditions, proving that even after stock day, there are still fish to be caught if you adjust your approach.

I also talk about stocking timing, fishing pressure, and why coming out on stock day or the day after can make a big difference at Collins Lake. This video gives an honest look at what to expect when fishing here on a weekend after most of the stocked fish have already been caught.
