Offset lithographic printing or Litho, is the traditional process for high volume printing. An understanding of the advantages of digital printing and how those compare to litho is critical in making the right choice for your project.
Litho printing splits the desired image in to Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black, these individual colours are then etched on to metal plates, that once installed in to the printing press, transfer each colour ink in sequence to the printed surface.
The Advantages of Digital printing begins with a much Shorter turnaround time.
Because you only need to print what you need, waste is reduced and small print runs are very economical.
Digital printing also allows information from a database or list, to alter text and graphics on each print without stopping or slowing down the press, so it is easy to create personalised printed items.
The Advantages of Litho printing are firstly Higher quality images.
The quality and cost-effectiveness in high volume jobs is a big factor. While today's digital presses are getting closer to the cost/benefit ratio of litho for high quality work, they are not yet able to compete with the volume a litho press can produce.
If you're planning to print using special spot colours like the Pantone® Matching System, litho printing will give you the best match, since it can use actual Pantone® ink.
Here at Bulpitt Print we run both litho and digital presses. Talk to us today and we will work with you to find the best solution for your print project and your budget.
