Josh Powell locked a social worker out of his house, trapped his two sons inside, attacked them with a hatchet, and set the house on fire using gasoline—all while the caseworker was on the phone with 911.

This is the complete story of what happened that day. But to understand the explosion, we need to go back to December 6th, 2009, when Josh's wife Susan Powell vanished without a trace from their Utah home.
