Описание: After the conclusion of the First Sino-Japanese War in 1895 Japan soon found its imperial ambitions blocked by several European powers, but the most antagonistic was Russia. The Russian tsar Nicholas II feared that Japanese expansion in East Asia would effectively block Russian ambition in the region and worked to actively stifle any Japanese attempts to expand in the years that followed. By 1899 Russia had signed an alliance with China and gained the concession of Port Arthur on the Liaodong Peninsula which supported Russian claims in Manchuria and designs on Korea. Japan, feeling threatened by these moves, began to prepare for conflict, which the Russian government largely ignored despite warnings. What resulted in 1904 was a war that saw both powers use modern weapons of warfare and the stunning victory of an Asian power over a European one.
