Thin wires are connected to the machines that support life in this recently strong and healthy body. The guy's eyes are tightly closed, and his chest is slowly going up and down. A sophisticated device is helping him to breathe. The patient's heartbeat is steady, as indicated by a nice symmetrical line on the monitor.
Strange, he looks like he's just sleeping," a woman sitting next to the patient's bed whispers.
This is probably the thousandth time she has said this phrase in the past week, the worst week of her life. The young man who is lying on the bed with an oxygen mask on his face is her son, twenty-year-old Alejandro. He has always been cheerful, kind, and smiling. Since he was a child, he had been surrounded by a crowd of friends. His friends are also in shock now, they still can't recover from what happened, and they want to come here, to the intensive care unit. But, of course, they are not allowed in. The chief doctor only allowed his close relatives to visit him.
