Leading up to the proclamation, a long series of events unfolded. spanning for more than 300 years.

the story begins with the arrival of the dutch east indie company or VOC in 1602. originally came for the spice trade ended up controlling all the spice-producing region and after the early of the 18th century VOC collapse due to corruption and miss-managements. and then the dutch government takes over but things didn't do the indonesian people do any good since the goal is the same

in the early of the 20th century an indonesian national organization started with budi utomo, sarekat islam, and many followed

in 1942 the Japanese invaded the south east asian region, indonesia is among them, at first many indonesian people welcomed the japanese in hope that'll end the dutch rule in indonesia. but the japanese occupation is brutal with the labour known as Romusha in effort to fuel the japanese invasion in the region.

at the end of 1944 the japanese formed PETA pembela tanah air and trained indonesian people in the military in hope that will reinforce the japanese forces to prepare against allied invasion

in august 1945 Hiroshima and Nagasaki were devastated by atomic bombs, which forced the japanese to surrender to the allied

on 16 august 1945 the radical youth urged soekarno and Moehammad Hatta to take action due to the vacuum of power in indonesia. and on 17 august 1945 The Proclamation is declared.

but that is not the end, the dutch return backed by the British in Allied Netherlands East Indies or AFNEI that caused a brutal confrontation in Sumatra and java, the peak battle was in Soerabaja, although indonesian is beaten but the courage and spirit of Independence of the indonesian Resistance remain strong. that made the British withdrew their forces

after long battles with the dutch in 1947 through 1948 came the Roem - Roijen Agreement which led to the round table in the Hague, and in 1949 the Dutch recognized the Indonesian sovereignty but in the form of The Republic of the United States of Indonesian RIS

After a long diplomatic Negotiation finally in 1950 Soekarno disbanded the RIS and returned to the United Nations known today as The Republic of Indonesia🇮🇩
