What is Ziprasidone (Geodon)?

Ziprasidone has an antipsychotic effect, apparently caused by dopamine and serotonin receptor-blocking in CNS.

It is available as 20 mg, 40 mg, 60 mg and 80 mg capsules, an as 20 mg/ml Injection.

Ziprasidone is used in the management of schizophrenia, and in the treatment of acute agitation in schizophrenic patients, injection only can be used in this case.

The usual oral dose of Ziprasidone for adults is 20 to 80 mg twice a day. And the usual intramuscular dose is 10 to 20 mg/day, up to a maximum dose of 40 mg/day.
