The Krogstad crisis is in full swing, and things aren’t looking good. Poor Nora is on the brink of hysteria, but manages to pull herself together enough to tell Kristine the truth, Krogstad is the one who gave her the loan, and has delivered the blackmail letter. Kristine says that she will go over and try to reason with Krogstad, revealing they had a history of love. Nora knows that she must distract Torvald from checking the letters at once, her life depends on it. Nora begs Torvald to help her practice her Tarantella dance for the party. Nora dances madly, much to Torvald’s dismay. Even when Dr. Rank plays so Torvald can conduct, it seems that for the first time, Torvald’s control over Nora is slipping. When Kristine returns, she says that Krogstad has left town, but she will talk to him tomorrow. Nora is left putting on her usual skylark act, when really, she is counting the hours she has left to live. In 31 hours, the Tarantella will be over. In 31 hours, the truth will come out. 31 hours to live.
