In this video I show you how to make a massage bar. This recipe is loosely based on the concept of a lush massage bar that I bought many years ago, but is a very simple home DIY aromatherapy massage bar that anyone can create from a handful of widely available ingredients. You will need:
Shea butter (approx 200g but the quantities scale depending on your moulds)
Cocoa butter (optional - approx 40g)
Jojoba oil (10 drops)
Essential oils to fragrance (5-10 drops of each - I used Lavender, Bergamot and Ylang Ylang - I would also have added Lemon if I had been able to locate mine)
Be careful not to over heat the Shea butter - in its unrefined state it usually has a shelf life of 18-24 months, but overheating can burn it, or denature it so that it risks going rancid sooner. It takes a while to set, but I usually pop it in the freezer overnight so that it says super solid when you need to turn it out of the mould. I used silicone soap moulds, but silicone cupcake cases would also work, or even make miniature bars using an ice cube tray. Once it has set wrap it in paper and store in a cool, dark and dry place and use within 12 months.
