The romantic and charming "Enchanted Cottage" is tucked away behind the gates of Lake Sherwood's exclusive and private South Shore. The Cottage is nestled under a canopy of mature Oak trees and is located on a short country lane (with no through traffic!) making it feel very private and peaceful.
The cottage is one of the few homes that surround lovely Maid Marion park which feels like an extension of the front yard. Here you can picnic with friends, watch the children play in the play ground or just relax with a glass of wine. The lake is so close that you can catch glimpses of it through the trees and it is short distance to the waters edge where boating, swimming, fishing and more await you. The Cottage has valuable Bruder Agreement rights which makes it one of only a handful of homes on the Lake that have permanent dock rights, and so it comes with it's own private boat dock. The grounds are a magical blend of old oaks, whimsical stone walls, arches, statues and old fountains, an ivy covered garage and "hidden" passages that wind up through the garden to the homes fanciful brick patio that looks out towards the lake. A fairyland for the senses.
Inside, the large vintage stained glass window allows light to wash over the hardwood floors and open beam ceiling of the family room, which is warmed in the winter by a captivating fireplace and old fashioned hearth. The whimsical feeling of the gardens, continues on the inside, setting a romanic and welcoming feel that flows throughout the entire home. There bedrooms and three bathrooms (one of which has a brick shower unlike any you are likely to have seen), a dining room, kitchen, and a screened in patio, create a homey atmosphere filled with a welcoming charm.
The "Enchanted Cottage" was the location for the exterior filming of the much loved 1945 Classic film of the same name, starring Dorothy Mcquire ad Robert Young. In fact, the star of the film, Robert Young, returned to visit the cottage in 1995, and a plower commemorating his return is located at the entry gate to the Cottage. Upon walking up the stairs, now much later in his life, he paused at the stairs before entering and said softly to himself "I'm finally back". You may feel the same way too once you visit. Vintage photographs and movie posters, some signed by Robert Young, and copies of two magazines featuring the cottage, will stay with the new owners of coarse. Enjoy!
